Waiting On Wednesday: Darkness Falls

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly post hosted by breaking the spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Darkness Falls
by Jessica Sorensen
Release Date: March 17th
Summary (Goodreads)

When the disease spread through the world, people had no choice but to go into hiding. The Colony is hidden deep underground, far away from the vampires—humans that were transformed by the disease. The vampires are hideous, starving, and they will kill any human they come across.
Seventeen-year-old Kayla is a Bellator, a warrior that protects The Colony. In order to survive, there are three rules she must follow:
Rule #1—Never go out after dark.
Rule #2—Always carry a weapon.
Rule #3—No matter what, never EVER get bit.
But what happens when the rules Kayla has always lived by can no longer apply?
The Highers run The Colony and accept nothing less than perfection. One slip up can mean death. Kayla has always worked hard to follow the rules and strive for perfection. But during a moment of weakness, she lets her imperfections show. Her punishment is worse than death. She is chosen for The Gathering and is thrown out into a world full of starving vampires.
No one has ever survived The Gathering, at least that’s what Kayla’s been told. But when she runs into a group who insist they were once part of The Gathering, Kayla discovers the Highers have been keeping secrets. Secrets that could lead to a cure.

Review: Gravity

Gravity
by M. Leighton
My Rating: 5 Stars
Summary (Goodreads)

Love is irresistible. Gravity is undeniable.

Holy men have foretold their birth for thousands of years. Supernatural creatures have awaited it for thousands more. Now, in the presence of an eclipse, three souls mature for a single purpose—to fight. They must fight for their lives, for their freedom and for the liberation of everyone possessed of a second nature.

********

Peyton Giles’s world is turned upside down when she learns that everyone in her life and in her school is much more than they appear, she most of all. Peyton is the one person in all of time and history powerful enough to bring peace to the darkness and to the light. Not knowing that her powers could kill her, however, Peyton nearly loses her life only to have her brother’s best friend save it. Drawn to him in ways she can’t explain, Trace is the one person that she literally can’t live without. Her soul is tethered to her world through her connection to him. Without it, she will die.

For the most part, Trace Kramer has always steered clear of his best friend’s sister. Until now. He never would’ve expected that Peyton would hold his life and his future in her hands the way she’s always held his heart. But she does.

Peyton and Trace soon learn that love and fate aren’t easier than duty and destiny, at least not when you’re being hunted. Together, they are more powerful than any other creature on the planet—and more valuable—but apart, neither can survive to fight for freedom, for the only life they’ve ever known and for the lives of everyone they’ve ever met.

Their need for one another is undeniable. Their love for one another is irresistible. But can it endure all that they must suffer?

My Review
M. Leighton has blown me away again.  From the time I opened this book on my kindle, I was hooked, and I had to know more about this world M. created!

Peyton is enthralled with her brother's best friend Trace, and when he starts reciprocating those feelings Brady, Peyton's twin brother, is way less than thrilled.  Peyton is confused of why her brother is so against her dating his friend until the guys get in a fistfight and their true identities manifest.  Now Peyton is faced with the choice between family loyalty or fateful love.

I don't think I have ever read a book with so many paranormal beings: vampire, werewolf, dragon, raven, succubus, witches, dream walker, grendels, and gorgons. There was a lot and I don't even think I got them all, but they all work together.  The book didn't seem disjointed because there were so many beings but really the opposite.  In the story, you felt as if for some reason they needed to be there, and it made the book even more epic having so many different aspects!

Peyton has the coolest power of all, but she must learn how to control her power before it kills her.  Throughout the book she learns of the power she possess, and how she can use that to change her world.  It all depends if she is willing to take the responsibility and if she can grow into this role quick enough.

I really can't stop thinking about this book.  It's consuming my mind, so much that I can't even read anything else without thinking about Trace....and Peyton!  This book is an EPIC must read!
