UtopYA Day 25

reEmergent by A.M. Hargrove
Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble
Xarrid Yarrister is barely surviving...he’s living a life in hell.
The love of his life, Saylan, has vanished into thin air, and his telepathic powers can’t connect with her mind.

Saylan, a Guardian of Vesturon, doesn’t know herself anymore. Kidnapped by the Xanthians, she’s had a robotic chip implanted in her brain and is now a prisoner in her own body, lacking free will, at the beck and call of her cruel masters.

For over a year Xarrid has been on the hunt. The Guardians have searched everywhere for her, but when they finally bring her home, Xarrid discovers her memory is gone. He’s determined to restore his love’s mind back to its healthy state. Removing the chip can cost Saylan her life, but doing nothing will cause irreparable brain damage. What choice will Xarrid make and how steep of a price will Saylan have to pay?

Review of reEmergent

*if you haven't read Survival, Ressurection, or Determinant, this review will be a spoiler!*

I can't believe this series is over!  When you follow a series from beginning to end there is almost this sadness when you read the final 'the end'.  Thankfully it was a great end that did not disappoint whatsoever.  I'm sad to see The Guardians of Vesturon series come to a close, but I got to say I was completely satisfied.

Poor Xarrid.  You can't help feel bad for him.  His mate was kidnapped in Determinant and they can't find her.  Luckily it didn't take to long to locate her, but once they did she didn't remember anything.  Xarrid and Saylan have to work really hard to get back what they once had, and her trauma from being kidnapped threatens them ever having that relationship back.

It was great getting a glimpse into the characters lives that I had fallen for in the previous books in the series.  Rykerion and January have a cute little toddler and Rykerion is still giving Jurek the death stare.  Rayn and Maddie get a nice little surprise.  Maddie is still as strong as ever when she insists to join the mission on Earth.

When I started the book I was like but A.M. what about Sharra?  She still doesn't have a mate and thats just wrong.  Little did I know she definitely did not forget about the only girl of the royal family.  Sharra and Zander have a great bond.  I love that the series has soulmates and Sharra finally ran into hers.  They are both powerful Guardians and a great match.

I love Jurek in this book.  Man I did not like him in Determinant he was a jerk most of the time and then I warmed up to him when I read the Dark Waltz.  In reEmergent he plays such a big role in helping the Yarristers.  I love that we get to see this soft side to him even though he still holds up his authority and domineering side too.  You get to see that his hardened heart still cares for others!  <3 Jurek.

The ending ends with many happily ever afters but does leave some room.  I can't wait to see where Hargrove goes with the Praestani Series (starting with Dark Waltz).  I still think Tesslar should end up with me!  I mean how perfect would it be?  Tess <3 Tesslar ;)

Faded by Mercy Amare
Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble
I left Hope – the only place I’ve ever felt at home. So now what? Where do I go from here?

When I left, I didn’t just leave my home. I left my friends, my sisters, and Stephan… I just found them. I can’t lose them now.

I know that I want to do MY music. I need to remember WHY I wanted to play music in the first place. And the only way to get that is by firing my dad, but that may be harder than I thought.

On top of everything, I now have cameras following me around everywhere. Even my own home isn’t safe anymore.

I’ve come to realize that normal will never be an option for me.

Review of Faded

Faded was such a great sequel!  I loved it from beginning to end and literally did not put it down.  Jaded ended with such a shocker.  I really didn't know where Faded was going to beginning, but Mercy did an amazing job continuing the story that keeps me on my toes.  I know for sure this trilogy always will.
The relationship between Scarlett and Stephan obviously have their bumps (I'm sure you know why if you know how Jaded ended!)  BUT they ended up staying strong and sweet.  Stephan was a great support for Scarlett.  She has to make a lot of important decisions for herself in Faded and she couldn't have done it without him.  I also really love the character that Stephan has become.  For a lot of the book he really was just a guy (a little horny at times and it was hilarious)!  Mercy does a great job of staying true to them being young adults even though they are having to make adult-ish decisions!
I'm also really excited for what's to come with Alec and Bridgett.  I could just see the tension coming off the page between them but because Scarlett is so preoccupied the reason why that is isn't revealed!
Overall I thought Faded was a great 2nd book.  Even though I'm pretty sure this ending was almost as a killer as the ending of Jaded (but in a good way!)  For some reason while I was reading it I felt that Faded's writing style was a mix between Jillian Dodd and Michelle Mankin.  I don't know if any one has read any of their books but I would be curious to know if someone else felt the same way.  It's a great mix to have!
I would recommend Faded to any Young Adult lover!  Just don't forget to read Jaded first! <3

Review of This Girl by Colleen Hoover

This Girl by Colleen Hoover
Goodreads
Layken and Will’s love has managed to withstand the toughest of circumstances and the young lovers, now married, are beginning to feel safe and secure in their union. As much as Layken relishes their new life together, she finds herself wanting to know everything there is to know about her husband, even though Will makes it clear he prefers to keep the painful memories of the past where they belong. Still, he can’t resist his wife’s pleas and so he begins to untangle his side of the story, revealing for the first time his most intimate feelings and thoughts, retelling both the good and bad moments, and sharing a few shocking confessions of his own from the time when they first met.

In This Girl, Will tells the story of their complicated relationship from hispoint of view. Their future rests on how well they deal with the past in this final installment of the beloved Slammed series.
Review
I thought it was fabulous for what it was. You have to know going into this book that it is the same story as Slammed so there is no surprises (thankfully Colleen Hoover didn't throw in a whole "and then Will and Lake woke up from their fantasy dreams and kept living their buterflying lives"). I read it about a year after I finished Slammed and I highly recommend waiting if you can! It was awesome for me to get to rediscover the characters in a new way (since it was from a different POV). I thought how Colleen chose to tell the story was an art. It wasn't like reading slammed again which even though Slammed was AMAZING would've gotten kind of boring. She brings the story to life AGAIN and in some ways it feels like Lake and Will are falling in love all over again. You also get a taste of all your favorite parts of Slammed again. I just loved reliving those scenes. I loved the new content you got from This Girl. You get a taste of their honeymoon *wiggles eyebrows* and the epilogue is pretty epic! If you are like me and can't get enough of these characters and rich story, I suggest you finish off the series and read This Girl! It's worth it!

Have you read This Girl?  What did you think?

Reviewed any books lately?  I wanna read them!  Post your links in the comments!

Review: Never Let You Fall

Never Let You Fall by Michele G. Miller

Orphaned at 7, with no memory of her past or the family she lost, 17 year old Skye Martin is tired of being alone and afraid. After a hard night of partying, Skye wakes up alone in an unfamiliar hotel. All she can remember is the deep voice of her rescuer and his promise: “I am safe.”

Xander has been tasked with watching Skye from afar for the past two years, in order to keep her safe from the demons that hunt her. An easy job - until a pair of red glowing eyes reveal themselves to Skye, and Xander, in a moment of weakness, is forced to break his cover to protect her.

Never good at trusting people, Skye is inexplicably drawn to Xander and the immediate bond she feels for him. However, Xander is filled with secrets and ties to her past that threaten to thrust Skye into a world she could never imagine existed…

As she begins to unravel the truth about who Xander is and the details surrounding her family, she discovers that she might just be the key to saving everything...

And, most importantly, she finds that there has always been someone by her side who would never let her fall…
I'm REALLY excited to share this book with everyone today.  I LOVED it so much and frankly it's one of those books that I haven't been able to get out of my head.  I kept procrastinating on my review because I didn't think anything that I said would live up to how good this book was.  Now I really hope I don't set your expectations so high that it doesn't meet them, but I just can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed this book.  Okay before I tame my fan-girling I want to show you the teaser pic that I made for it!

Aren't they awesome?!!! Okay so now for my "real" review!

Fantasy books normally aren't my cup of tea, but I couldn't put this one down.  With characters that you fall in love with and a page turning plot line, Never Let You Fall has easily become one of my favorites.

I loved the fact that I didn't have to wait for the action.  It wasn't one of those books that just gave loads of backstory for many chapters before something exciting happens.  This book pushes you into the story and captures you until you reach 'the end'.  It keeps you guessing and gives bits and pieces of the story to keep your interest along the way.

One of my favorite things about this book was the heroine, Skye.  In a way, she is thrown into this new world right before she reaches 18 and her life changes, again.  She has a terrible past and now has to deal with this new future.  I like that she is skeptical of it at first.  It makes her relatable and real.  She is a little nervous and fearful but on the other hand she is extremely brave and kick-butt.  She embraces her new destiny and I loved reading her take on this new life!

Xander...sigh... is my new book boyfriend.  He is protective, supportive, and loving toward Skye.  He reassures her through all these new life changes and is by her side the whole way.  Seriously you can't help but fall for him!  I really loved the connection between Skye and Xander throughout the book.  The romance was SWOOOOON worthy and kept it YA.

It's hard to say too much without giving away spoilers so I will just leave it at there.  What more can you ask for from a book than great characters, a great story, and a great new world to get lost in.  If Fantasy/Paranormal Romance is your thing then I definitely recommend that you get Never Let You Fall!

A special Excerpt just for you...

“What do you feel?  Anything strange?”

She flung her hands up in the air as she answered me. “Yes, I feel something strange!  This whole thing is strange!”

Placing my finger on her lips, I shook my head in frustration.  “Skye, what do you feel here?” I asked again, pointing to her chest.  “How do you feel?”

She stood for a moment with her lips lightly pressed to my finger, slowly closing and reopening her eyes.  There was a sheen to them that spoke of unshed tears, and as she raised her hand to pull mine away from her mouth, I saw her fingers tremble when  she whispered, “I can’t deal with this, Xander.”

“Yes, Skye - you can and you will,” I warned her.  “This is going to happen whether you want it to or not.  I told you that I’m safe, and I…”

Skye broke into hysterical laughter at that.  “Safe?  You’re telling me that a legion of demons is after me and there’s nothing I can do to stop it.   How in your book does that equal safe?”

“You don’t know me, Skye, and you don’t know Rioden and… what we can do.  I told you that I would protect you, and I will.”

Shaking her head, she took a small step back and admitted, “You’re right about one thing, Xander,” as she wiped a tear from her face.  “I don’t know you, so how can I trust you?  No matter how you make me feel.  Please just leave me alone.”  She spun on her heel and sprinted away, leaving me to stare after her.

About the Author

Having grown up in both the cold, quiet town of Topsham, Maine and the steamy, southern hospitality of Mobile, Alabama, Michele is something of a enigma.  She is an avid Yankees fan, loves New England, being outdoors and misses snow.  However she thinks southern boys are hotter, Alabama football is the only REAL football out there and sweet tea is the best thing this side of heaven and her children’s laughter!

Her family, a doting husband and three awesome  minions  have planted their roots in the middle of Michele’s two childhood homes in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Never Let You Fall is Michele’s first novel and she is beyond thrilled to have finally followed up on a dream she has held for over 20 years!  God willing there will be many many more books to follow.
