Summary (Goodreads)
A young blogger has the ultimate on-line encounter; a spirit partner who introduces him to a world he must master to save his own. A ghost in the machine?

Adam is a 19 year old blogger who lives in his mother’s basement and who is dealing with a critically ill friend. A simple reply to a blog fan e-mail begins a relationship with Pretoria, a beautiful and mysterious young woman. Pretoria guides him into ‘the Realm’, a spirit world where he discovers he is a powerful force for the protection and survival of human kind. As Pretoria reintroduces Adam to the Realm and his place in it, he realizes that she is not only trying to reclaim him for the sake of humanity, but also for the spirit world and herself. Facing a powerful evil , Adam re-engages with the Realm in order to save his friend and the human world while re-discovering why he had tried to escape it in the first place. As a battle within the Realm reaches its climax, Adam must finally choose between his human and his spirit form, or lose both.

Interview with Rob Andrews

What inspired you to write WiSpY?

I have two young adult daughters who love fiction.  I have a young adult son, but if it isn't about a bike or swimming fuhgettaboutit ...

Anyway, I read a great deal of YA fiction and decided to finally hatch an idea for a ghost story that had been rattling around in my head for a long time.  The YA stuff made me change the protagonist from a middle aged, kind of worn-out guy to our friend Adam.  The idea of who he really was just evolved as the characters and story developed!  Once I got started I was writing at an amazing pace; almost a chapter a day!  This was a story that wanted to be told...

Did you do any unusual research for the book?

Some - the Realm and regressions and details of the Spirit state all just came out of my head, but I ended up researching plasma, the Galapagos Islands and Madison, Wisconsin (thanks to Google Earth) and the likely mortality rates of exploding nuclear facilities ... it's bizarre what you can find on the internet!

What is your favorite place to write?

Yes.

I can write at a desk, in a chair, on the train, in the car (NOT driving), hotels, decks, the couch, in bed ... yeah, pretty much anywhere.  I wrote a lot of WiSpY in a swimming pool viewing area (guess who was swimming?) or a nearby grocery store parking lot (because wifi was plentiful.)  I guess the bottom of the well was always full while I was writing WiSpY!  Of course you have to read it to get that reference :)

If you had to give WiSpY a theme song, what would it be?

"Spooky Little Girl Like You" by the Zombies :)

The theme album would obviously be Ghost in The Machine

Of course, the book does reference a few songs - Jethro Tull's Aqualung (after which Adam names an adversary) and a lyric from RHCP's "Can't Stop."

Thanks for having me on the site.  I hope people enjoy WiSpY as much as I enjoyed writing it!
