Excerpt from Shadow Slayer (Shadow Series #2):

I pull some blush and mascara out of my makeup bag. I’m late, as usual. No one else is in here with me and it’s too quiet, too quiet for opening night. I try extra hard to keep the makeup off my dress, wedging scratchy brown paper towels all along my shoulder strap to protect it.

I glance over at one of the open, empty lockers. My sword hides in locker number 316, a row away from me. I thought about slaying every one of the shadows that had invaded in dress rehearsal but there was no way for me to ride the bus and sneak my sword in to school without a million eyes on me. Without getting noticed by some teacher who’d confiscate it and expel me for bringing a weapon to school. I had so much stuff to take for the play that Mom offered to give me a ride at the crack of dawn this morning. I hid my sword under my dress. Mom was so scattered because of her big meeting she didn’t notice anything and since it was so early no one was in the halls to give me a second look when I hid my sword in my locker. Note to self: early morning is a good time to hide stuff at school.

I stroke one cheek and then the other with blush and remember standing with Drew at the bonfire. The last night we went out as boyfriend and girlfriend. The last night he was human.

On your 13th birthday, you get the call. By your 14th birthday you find out what the call is.

Everyone I know is in the audience tonight. Ally, Mom, Dad, Brian, even Mitch because he came home for my birthday. We’re having our family dinner tomorrow night since tonight the cast party’s at Drew’s house, unless I decapitate him first.

“Roxie five minutes!” Hayden yells into the girl’s locker room. As usual I’m the last one out. I sweep my hair up to the side and try to remember my first line. For some reason it’s the one I always forget.

All hail, great master! grave sir, hail! I come
To answer thy best pleasure...

I open locker 316, grab my sword and just as I step outside of the locker room Wanda runs up to me and starts talking non-stop about her nerves and how they’re getting worse and worse.

“What’s that?” she asks. I stop cold in my tracks at the backstage door.

“There are lots of words for things that don’t exist––the unseen. Like monsters and aliens and dragons and vampires and ghosts,” I say sort of in a trance.

“Yeah, so?” Wanda says, wringing her hands.

“If they don’t exist, why are there words for them? All the stuff I thought was crazy really isn’t crazy at all,” I say, finally getting what Drew was trying to tell me at the bonfire at the estate at homecoming. What the human Drew said before I danced with his shadow. My role in the unseen, the shadow world. Still, I don’t know so many things. Like, what happens to a shadow once I slay it? And where do humans go when their shadows invade? How can I save my human friends?

“Roxie, I caught you! I was so late because Brian’s car got a flat. He fixed it so great, I couldn’t believe it. It’s like he went to bad ass school or something,” Ally says, laughing.

“Ally. Finally!” We hug. I swallow hard. Brian. Fixed. A. Flat. I mean it’s not brain surgery but believe me, if it doesn’t have an LCD screen Brian doesn’t think it exists. He doesn’t know how to fix a flat. O.M.G. Brian is probably a shadow too.

Moon Killers (Shadow Series #3) Teaser:

I am the Shadow Slayer. I will live five hundred years. Five hundred years ago Columbus was about to discover the New World and ice cream hadn’t been invented yet. Five hundred years from now humans will most likely populate space and find cures for the incurable. Maybe by then, a five-hundred-year life won’t seem so epic.

I stare deeply into my boyfriend’s gorgeous golden eyes. When I’m granted my reward, my Last Life, Drew will be long since dead and we will have lived one thousand years between us. Drew’s five hundred years only reveal themselves in his kiss. He kisses like a man who’s lived countless lifetimes and discovered the only thing that matters. Nothing about Drew says he’s just begun his Last Life.

He’s someone girls notice under the Friday night lights––especially the way he pulls off the winning play week after week. And, if you’re like most girls, you’d die to just talk to him and even concoct ways to make that happen, including circling back in line again when he and his friends walk up to the snack shack, or walk an extra loop around the parking lot in search of a ride, hoping to run into him.

Tomorrow’s game is against LT. We hate LT. I don’t know why, it just is. Freshmen sort of have to accept things like arch rivals. Before I found out what I am, before I met Drew, I felt like freshman was tattooed on my forehead. It’s kind of cool how everyone at school, make that everyone in town, wants to beat LT.

Drew and I snuck onto the football field ten minutes ago. It’s pretty epic scaling the stadium gates. I’m afraid of heights, but Drew and I climbed the chain link side by side. I feel like I can do anything when he’s with me. He’s the kind of guy a girl would break into school with and not care about what punishment might come down after. I love lying here in the empty stadium with Drew, like this. Like everything’s normal. Like we’re normal.

“It’s easy, Roxie,” Drew says, lying beside me, inches away.

“What is?” I shift a little in the grass and turn to face him.

“Killing the moon.” It’s the night before the big game against LT, but Drew’s a million miles away.

“If you say so.” I shiver and stare at the huge goal post above us, ghostly against the night sky. He knows how badly I’ve wanted to kill the moon. How important it is. I’ve been hounding him non-stop about it since homecoming––the night my life changed––when he spoke of it at the bonfire.

We are said to kill the moon because its phases are meaningless to us. Time doesn’t matter to us.

I’m not sure I’m ready. I mean, not now. Not this second. Not on a Thursday night. Such a normal night. I like normal. Moon Killing seems more of a Saturday night thing, I guess. Saturday nights are meant for the extraordinary. I stroke my arm and feel the rough edges of my massive scar. There’s not enough Mederma in the world to completely heal my first battle wound.

We love comments so please let us know what you think! (It's also your way to enter the giveaway that you don't want to miss- details above)

My Favorite Mistake Blog Tour:Guest Post & Giveaway

My Favorite Mistake by Chelsea Cameron
Add it on Goodreads | Buy it on Amazon | Buy it on B&N
Taylor Caldwell can't decide if she wants to kiss her new college roommate or punch him.

On the one hand, Hunter Zaccadelli is a handsome, blue-eyed bundle of charm. On the other, he's a tattooed, guitar-playing bundle of bad boy. Maybe that's why Taylor's afraid of falling in love with him, or anyone else. She doesn't want to get burned, and even though her other roommates adore him, she wants him gone before it's too late.

Hunter himself has been been burned before, but the fact that Taylor calls him out on his crap and has the sexiest laugh ever make him decide maybe love isn't a lost cause. They make a bet: if she can convince him she truly loves or hates him, he'll leave the apartment--and leave her alone. The problem is, the more time they spend together, the less she hates him, and the more she moves toward love.

But when the man who holds the key to Taylor's fear of giving up her heart resurfaces and threatens to wreck everything, she has to decide: trust Hunter with her greatest secret, or do everything in her power to win that bet and drive him away forever.

Guest Post
As a writer, it's my job to make sure that my readers feel like they're inside my story. This includes making it easy for the reader to visualize exactly how things look. I have a confession: I'm terrible at writing settings. It's pretty much the last thing I think of. I tend to go with dialogue first, and then the visual of the characters and then setting last. I have to make a concerted effort to remember to describe it.

When it came to My Favorite Mistake, it was actually easy to describe the setting, since I've lived it. It's so easy to take myself back to college, to the endless pizza nights, the laundry, the mis-matched furniture. But for greater visual stimulation, I went to the internet. You can find the Pinterest board I created for My Favorite Mistake here: http://pinterest.com/authorchelcam/my-favorite-mistake/

From the first chapter, I knew Taylor was into peacocks. I didn't know why until I figured out her big secret, but, I knew she was nuts about anything with peacock feathers or colors. I found this bed set from Bed Bath & Beyond, and it's perfect for Taylor. She also has a peacock dreamcatcher that hangs on the side of her bed; a gift from her older sister, Tawny. For those of you who have read the book, you understand the significance of the peacock feathers.

For Hunter, I knew that he'd be into dark colors. Red, blue, black, gray. His guitar is black, and he seemed like a black sheet kind of guy, so I'd pair black sheets with this basic blue comforter from Target. He's also not into spending a lot of money on things, so he would definitely go for the low-priced route.

For those who have read the book, this is the infamous recliner from Chapter Sixteen. I wanted it to be squishy and ugly, like something you'd find on someone's lawn and throw in the back of your buddies truck. It's pretty ugly, isn't it? I'm pretty sure Paul (Renee, one of Taylor and Hunter's roommate's ex ) was the one who found it. I'm also pretty sure Darah (their other roommate) disinfected it thoroughly before she would let him bring it inside.

Hunter comes equipped with an Xbox and Kinect, but Renee, is the gaming junkie. When not studying her nursing textbooks, or trying to make her ex-boyfriend jealous, she's playing Skyrim. Hunter also has gaming nights with his buddies, his cousin Mase, and his friends, Dev and Sean.

Cover Reveal: Shadow of the Mark

I know you have probably already seen the cover because I'm a little late in posting this because it got lost in my the abyss of my email!  But I thought I would post it anyway just so we can stare at the beauty some more!
So here is some stuff about the cover...
I know, there's no mistaking it. This is definitely a Carrier Series
cover, but that was the intention. After the amazing reception to the
cover of Carrier of the Mark, HarperCollins wanted Shadow's cover to
be instantly recognizable. And it is, but the new darker color palette
reflects the darker tone that this installment brings, and the pink
and purple really make it pop. I love it and think HarperCollins have
done another amazing job. I hope you like it too.

Life for Megan Rosenberg just got a lot more complicated.

While she evoked the air element, and her feelings for Adam
intensified, a web of lies, deceit, and betrayal has been spun around
her.  With the Order tightening its hold, and the
reinstatement of the Mark Knights, Megan has more questions than
answers as the
Marked Ones grow in strength.

New people arouse suspicion, the DeRises start behaving
strangely, and Megan begins to unravel a destiny shrouded in mystery.
It?s a destiny the Order has struggled to hide,
and a destiny someone from the past?far in the past, has already laid
claim to.

Alliances will be made, and friends will be lost, as the
Order?s dark secrets are revealed by the very thing they sought to destroy.

Doesn't that sound AMAZING!?!
What do you think about the cover and blurb?!

Now a little bit about the amazing author that created all this...

I started out life in South Africa. A year later
my parents moved home to Dublin, Ireland. When I was older and realized my
parents had moved me from exotic Durban, to sedate Rathfarnham, Dublin 16, I
was rightly ticked off.

Giving up lions for sheep, I grew up in the foothills of
the Dublin Mountains where I went to a convent school and had to contend with
uniforms, gabardines, and nuns. When not dodging the beady glare of
the Sisters
of Mercy, I was devouring every book I could get my hands on.

I traveled all over Europe while working in banking and
treasury, but I gave up my calculator in favor of a keyboard and haven?t
stopped writing since. My first book, Carrier of the Mark, was published by
HarperTeen in 2011.

Our home is in Cork in the south of Ireland, but we?re currently on loan
to Massachusetts in the US where I continue to write books about
magic, ghosts,
and romance, with a bit of Irish flavor.

Micha is sexy, smart, confident, and can get under Ella’s skin like no one else can. He knows everything about her, including her darkest secrets. And he’s determined to bring his best friend, and the girl he loves back, no matter what it takes.

Review
I love ANYTHING Jessica Sorensen!  She is amazing, so when I found out her next book happened to be in my favorite genre, I was thrilled!
The Secret of Ella & Micha did not disappoint in any way! It was full of the heart-breaking and heart-melting emotion that I think any great contemporary needs!
Both Ella and Micha have messed up lives but that's just how it is.  I don't think Ella & Micha was a fixing/ character growth story as many of these are.  I saw it more as them trying to allow each other to hold the other during the heart-break.  But it was hard for them because there was a very thin line between best-friends and something more.
The whole time I was rooting for Micha while he was bringing ella back into her old self and I definitely loved his methods of doing so. ;) You've got to read it to find out what those were but I can tell you that I'm 99.9% sure that you'll love it too!
It appears as though Micha is holding all of Ella's pieces together but then later we see that Micha needs Ella just as much.  It was a great give/take relationship!
If you're a contemporary lover like me you're going to love this books and $.99 is a STEAL for this book!
Thank goodness there is a second book, or I would've died!  I wasn't ready to finish the book when I reached the end and I'm so glad it's not the end!

Cover Reveal: Hale Maree by Misty Provencher

I'm super excited to be sharing this cover with you because this author has recently become one of my favorites!

Misty Provencher is amazing and if you haven't read Cornerstone and Keystone, you need to!

Hale Maree is Misty Provencher's New Adult romance novel that is set to release November 19th.

Now that you're done staring at this very intriguing cover, I'm sure you're ready to read about this book! so here you go!
Hale Simmons dreams of climbing out of her impoverished life, going to college, and getting herself a titanium crash helmet, so she can eventually bust through the Plexiglas ceiling of her crappy life.  But for now, she’s just a 17-year-old girl with a flimsy hope, barely getting by with her alcoholic father, Jerry.
But for Hale, ‘crappy’ suddenly takes a nosedive, when Jerry becomes the sole witness to a horrible accident.  It is an event which means to effect everyone, especially Hale, who wasn’t even involved.
While the depth of the accident has just begun to unfold, Otto Maree, a prominent business man and old family friend, stands to lose everything because of it.  Otto is desperate for Hale’s father to stay quiet about what occurred the night the two men met for a drink.  Out of mutual moments of desperation, the two fathers forge a deal.  Jerry is desperate to gain financial stability for both himself and Hale, and Otto Maree is more than willing to pay to keep his secret just that.
But deals like this need to be made of the strongest vows and bound with the most faithful of loyalties.  Otto proposes a marriage between Hale and his playboy-son, Oscar, in order to assure that the secret remains ‘in the family’.  The mystery surrounding the accident continues to grow and Hale struggles against her own mysterious feelings that begin to develop for Oscar, who turns out to less of a playboy, but just as fiercely loyal and dedicated as his father.
As the pressures around her continues to escalate, Hale realizes that she’s got to decide if this arranged marriage is really just a big mistake or an amazing twist of fate, that has been waiting around for this particular accident to happen.

I can't wait for this book!  I just added it to my "Want to Read" pile on goodreads!
Here is the link if you want to too!

The Modified Release Day Blitz

It's The Modified's RELEASE DAY!!!! *throws confetti*
I'm super excited because now all of you get to read it and let me just say I finished this yesterday and it was AWESOME (but more of that later)!!!!
Today, I have for you the blurb, buy links, review, little excerpts, AND the release day GIVEAWAY!

The Modified by C.A. Kunz
Goodreads | Barnes & Noble | Amazon | Smashwords

What would you sacrifice to save the one’s you love? To save the one who holds your heart? To save the world?

Kenley Grayson is all too familiar with these questions.

After Earth is thrust into its first intergalactic war with an unknown race called the Bringers, our military forces begin to suffer heavy losses. Desperate for a solution, the Allied Federation issues a worldwide draft for every able seventeen year old to enlist. As Kenley turns seventeen, she finds herself thrown into the very war that took her older brother’s life.

This year’s draft is a little different than in the past though. A new program, known as the Magnus Project, has been introduced, and only the best and brightest qualify. Kenley is amongst a select few whom are chosen to join this elite group of soldiers, and as a part of this project, undergoes a modification procedure that leaves her and her peers endowed with powers beyond their wildest dreams.

As Earth continues in its struggle against the Bringers, Kenley is transported to a high-tech training facility, the Magnus Academy, to prepare for the major battle that lies ahead. It’s here that she meets the California heartthrob, and son of a legendary war hero, Landon Shaw. As unexpected feelings toward Landon begin to develop, Kenley wonders if this is the right time or place for romance to bloom, especially when those feelings start to interfere with her training.

With the weight of the world on her shoulders, Kenley is constantly reminded of how important she and the rest of the Magnus cadets are to the fate of humanity. She is one of the Modified, Earth’s last line of defense against utter destruction.
Review
I love, love, love C.A. Kunz and everything that is them so when I heard about The Modified I was SUPER excited because it just sounded like my kind of book.  The Modified exceeded any kind of expectations I had for it!  I really, really, truly loved it!

Even though the romance was a part of why I liked it (because it always is), The Modified had so much more to offer.  My favorite thing was the world development.  The way this dystopian world was described I was able to completely submerge myself in it.  I love books that I can completely get lost in and this was definitely one of them.  I also thought the unfolding of information and mystery was done perfectly.  It kept my attention the whole time and I was never able to completely anticipate what was around the corner!

Landon....must I say more than his name?  It alone is swoon worthy.  :D Okay just kidding I will tell you why you should swoon at the mention of his name.  Well first of all he is one of the sweetest book boyfriends I've ever had.  He is just perfect for Kenley.  They find each other in such tragedy where happiness shouldn't be a possibility, but now they have the happiness because they have someone to lean on.  Now for some quotes from the book so you can swoon a little too.
"my gaze fixes on a single guy. My heart skips a beat. He’s unlike any guy I’ve ever seen. I mean, there have been guys I’ve had crushes on back home, but there’s something so different about him. His sun-kissed skin and beautiful chestnut brown hair takes my breath away. I never thought I’d feel this way, especially not while in my current situation." (page 42)
"Our eyes meet and he mouths good morning. I mouth it back to him and smile shyly. Could he get any cuter? I mean, seriously. He has to have some major flaw, I tell myself." (page 91)
Okay so we now that you have gotten a taste of Landon, I thought I would talk a little bit about the supporting characters that I absolutely love.  I know I've said this before, but one of my favorite things about C.A. Kunz's writing in general is the complexity of the supporting characters.  I always fall in love with them almost as much as I do the main characters.  Joey, Sam, and Gailieo were my favorites in this book.  Joey has been with Kenley all her life and he is basically family.  Their relationship is very meaningful and I loved watching their support for each other as they became soldiers.  Sam is that sassy girl that everyone can't help to fall in love with.  She says what's on her mind and most of the time it's freakin' hilarious.  And Galileo...well he isn't exactly human but he grows as a character so much and is Kenley's support when she is alone.  Here are some quotes to give you a little taste of Joey and Sam.
“Just so you know, if we die...I’m going to be really pissed at you,” Joey whispers. (page 15)
“Uh-oh, boy trouble three o’clock,” Sam whispers at me jokingly from across the table. “Shut up,” I reply playfully. “It’s not like that.” She laughs. “Okay, Grayson. Whatever you say.” (page 71) ~Sam
If you're ready to get completely lost in a world that you'll fall in love with, The Modified is for you.  Any dystopian, sci-fi, romance lover should read The Modified because I'm sure it will rock your socks off like it did mine!

Determinant Blog Tour: Review & GIVEAWAY

Hey sorry guys! I was suppose to have this review up yesterday! I apologize for the lateness especially since this time I had actually read the book on time! :D ANYWAY I hope you are all enjoying this blog tour and if this is the first stop you've seen, I hope you check out the rest of the tour because it's awesome! *psssst* there is a GIVEAWAY at the bottom of the post too!
Determinant by A.M. Hargrove
Add it on Goodreads | Buy on Amazon
January St. Davis, on her own since the age of sixteen and struggling to stay in college, thinks she’s scored in a major way when she lands a paid summer internship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. One evening, after working an especially long shift, a chance encounter with a group of mysterious men alters the course of her life.

Rykerian Yarrister, a Guardian of Vesturon with unearthly powers and impossibly gorgeous looks, finds himself at odds over the human female he recently saved from certain death. When it seems he is on the verge of winning her over, she is ripped from his hands by a strange and powerful being, threatening to destroy her if his demands are not met.

Do Rykerian and the Guardians have the ability to meet this fierce barbarian’s ultimatums, or will January suffer a horrid demise?
My Review
When I first heard that Determinant was coming out, my first thought was where is Hargrove going with this...I thought Resurrection pretty much resolved Maddie and Rayn's issues, but I love them so I was ready to read some more books starring them AND then I saw that it wasn't Maddie and Rayn's story after all.  It's Rykerian's, Rayn's brother, story.  Then my mind was all like...okay let's give this a try because it's either going to be a bust or bomb (the good kind).  GUESS WHAT?! It's the BOMB!

Determinant is my favorite book in the Guardian of Vesturon series.  I loved that it was almost a fresh story on top of the developed world from the first 2 books.  There are just so many new elements to this book!  You get new characters, a different, closer perspective to the war that is going on, and a new species (if that's what you can call Jurek).

If you've read Survival, you MIGHT remember that January is Maddie's roommie in college.  I loved how that part of their life was tied into the story.  Determinant starts before that so you'll get a little bit of her back story.  I love January's strength.  It's shown from the very first chapter in the glimpse of her childhood.  It's heart-breaking what she went through yet she made it out on top.  That is until her life was shaken up a bit by Rykerian.

When Rykerian saves her, her life changes a bit.  Okay so maybe when I say a bit that's a little bit of a understatement.  She is introduced to a whole new world.  I liked how she was so skeptical about it all because even though I wanted to shake her and say all the evidence is right there in front of your face, it was more natural to be as freaked as she was.

Let's talk Jurek...well he is a jerk...maybe.  I really haven't formed my whole opinion about him.  I guess I will just have to read his new series coming soon to completely form my opinion.  so more about him later.

Determinant is a great read for any paranormal romance lover that is looking for something different to read.  Like me, you will find that the Guardians of Vesturon will be your kind of aliens!

For me, I can't wait to get this on my shelf!
I know you want to add this to your TBR so I'm going to go ahead and give you the link...

Oh and did you want to read the awesome blurb too?
Okay! here you go...

They had a pact.
Leave the world behind much as they had lived it.
No one would miss them. No harm, no foul.
Their personal demons would be left behind once and for all.
It was the only thing they could count on.
It was all she had.

Madison Hanson has spent the last four years being a "shadow." Her parents ignore her. The students at her school stopped talking to her years ago, and the majority of her teachers forget she's even there. In her desperate yearning to leave her invisible life behind, Madison makes a pact with her only friend, James Garrison, to end their lives as inconspicuously as they live them. No fuss, no muss. No one would miss her and she would miss no one. Their plan is set, and it's all she can count on. That is, until fellow student, Mitch Peterson, beats them to the punch. Everything Madison believed in is shaken to the core when she watches the aftermath of Mitch's death unfold. By taking his own life, Mitch unwittingly saves hers. What a selfish prick.
She is now left with the daunting task of living. Trying to bury her demons once and for all, and finally trusting someone with her fragile existence.
Living is hell.
Death would have been so much easier.

"Books provide the ultimate getaway for me. A good story is a vehicle that takes you to another place, another time, or another world. I love reading the words and letting my imagination do the rest. I appreciate and respect every author who has the courage to put your work out there for the world to see."
