Unfortunately, when Peter finds the answer he hopes that will save the girl he loves, he opens the door to a great evil that happens to be salivating to meet him.
Purgatory Reigns was an intriguing read with suspense, mystery, adventure, and heart-warming romance that left me wanting more.
Peter, the main character, is a rough 16 year-old with a soft side. He has gone through a lot of hard stuff including losing both of his parents and as you can read in the excerpt below, he doesn't have a lot of luck with the people around him which makes him very distant.
After something bizarre happens his guardian sends him on the run. This is where the mystery comes in because as readers we don't have a full idea of what Peter is running from and neither does he. Preston unravels this mystery at a perfect pace. It's not too fast to where I could figure out the book and it's not too slow where I get disinterested. Throughout the book I found out about this order that he's supposedly a part of but had no idea.
Throughout the book there are glimpses of the antagonists scheme. Not enough to give away what is going on or what the scheme is but just enough to give us suspense of what is about to happen to Peter and his sidekick.
Along Peter's journey he picks up a sidekick. They are both able to save each other's lives and join together in their separate survivals. Their loyalty towards each other and camaraderie was great to read because they were both lonely and in need of each other.
The romance was very sweet between Peter and Angelique. They had great chemistry and loved each other out of desperation. Both of their parents had held back many secrets of the order that they discovered together and they were able to help each other figure out the mysteries of their lives. It was great they had each other to lean on during the rough trials in the book.
I would recommend this to any paranormal romance fan especially if they are looking for something new that both guys and girls would like.
A sickening thump made Peter jerk around. His face crinkled with
fury. The car threw the sparse girl’s body upwards into the air, and sped
off down the street. She bounced several times on the pavement. Peter ran
and knelt beside her. Blood dribbled from her lip. And he felt like gar-
bage, being the cause of her injury.
She smiled at him. “Petah. I…knew you would come.” Her dazed
eyes never left his face. “Take me home, Petah.”
He shook his head and searched around. Surprised the street was now
deserted. Tendrils of guilt filled his chest. Another one…my damn fault.
