Drowning in Fire
Book Two in The Nerita Torlan Trilogyby Arielle CaldwellISBN: 9781301674718Genre: Mature Young AdultNerita is tortured and put through more pain than she ever imagined could happen. Ahlic has captured her and locked her in a room where there’s no chance of escape on her own. He forces her to watch the murder of a friend. She strikes a deal to try and save lives but Ahlic is not the bargaining type.
After escaping, Ahlic forces her to endure a traumatic loss and haunts her in her dreams. More powers emerge from her, shocking everyone and leaving them slightly afraid. While on her own, a witch shows her the future and tells her grave news. A battle rages in her heart; unsure of how to handle the revelation.
She seeks Ahlic...but not to destroy him. Feelings she can’t control drive her to insanity and lust. Will Nerita give in and fall for what she’s been trying so hard to destroy?
Some pictures of what inspires Arielle with the Nerita Trilogy:
I am SO in love with this picture! Her eyes are the perfect shade of blue for Nerita and her hair is the right shade of black. She looks like she’s waiting to be found in a sense, to me.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers is the perfect example of Ahlic, the villain. His demeanor, looks, everything really, scream Ahlic and if the series were to ever be a movie, I would beg him to play Ahlic.
Nerita and Gavan are the perfect lovers. Nothing seems to go wrong, they never fight...it’s like they’re one with each other and this picture shows the unity between them in my opinion.
Nerita lives in a village close to the ocean. She trains on the beach daily with Gavan and I think this picture is so fantasy like and the vibrant colors really helps set the playful mood between their training sessions.
This one represents not death, but Gavan protecting Nerita. Gavan has the massive black wings and he is her protector. I just love this image in so many different ways. <3
This trilogy is all about the elements and the creatures that posses them. Nerita is the daughter of a water goddess and is very powerful with water, Gavan has the fire element. Together on their journey, they discover she is more powerful and possesses more than just the water element.
