Review: Witchblood

Awhile ago I had Emma Mills on the blog for Indie Revolution and at that time I was suppose to review the book, but it ended up being on a week that I had finals so I had Heather review it for me! (you can find Heather's review here)
ANYWAY then Emma contacted me this week and saying that she gave Witchblood a new cover, so I thought What better time to post my review then for the new cover reveal!  So I present you with the new Witchblood cover and my review of the book!

When Jess steals a glance at a gorgeous guy in a Manchester nightclub, little does she realise how he is going to change her life…or should that be death? Yet, the vampire clan could never have predicted what they were taking on. When Jess is turned into a vampire under the care of Daniel & Eva, she has to learn how to deal with her new found status, her place in vampire society, and of course the new diet. But as well as the powers that come with being a vampire, she has others, and there may be more to this than she thinks...

With her ex-boyfriend, Luke pronounced ‘off-limits’ and the blood of a vampire simmering in Jess’s body, can she forget the love of her life and move on? If not, she will risk exposing the entire Northern vampire clan to untold dangers, in order to live her life the way she wants.

Can Jess be sure that Luke is all he appears to be? Will she succumb to the attraction she desperately tries not to feel for Daniel? And why does she still crave a packet of crisps more than a tasty teenage boy’s blood?

My Review: 4 Stars
Recommended for fans of YA Paranormal!

I was a little confused at the beginning of Witchblood. I'm not really one to compare books to other books but at first it was feeling very My Blood Approves meets Twilight meets Blood Like Poison. Since I didn't feel like it was a copy of just one of these books I kept reading and then I finally saw the special twist that Emma Mills put on this book, and I was hooked! Of course I can't tell you about the twist because hello spoiler! but it really made the book for me!

I'm definitely Team Daniel! In the book, Jess can't quite let go of her old life which includes her boyfriend before her "change", Luke. I can understand why Jess doesn't quite want forget about Luke, but at some parts of the book I was ready for her to completely fall for the hunk (Daniel) that was by her side throughout the "transition".

Witchblood is a great take on the vampire-ish world with great twists and turns! I can't wait to read book 2, Witchcraft!

What do y'all think of the new cover?  Also for your viewing pleasure, here is the book's trailer and author bio!

Author Bio: I'm happily married with two lovely kiddies that keep me on my toes. I have always loved reading, and always wanted to write, it just never happened! Then once my youngest started school I was able to take some time and give it a go, Witchblood is my debut novel. After acquiring an obsessive love of supernatural teen novels, I decided to write my own supernatural story, based in Manchester, in the UK, near where I live and grew up. From October to March it’s dark, windy, cold and very, very wet... and easy to get inspiration!

  1. Wow the cover of this book looks like a direct copy of Julie Kagawa's Immortal Rules- not sure how I feel about that...

  2. When I read this book it had a different cover. Don't let the cover stop you though. It's an amazing read.
